OBD and Emission Control System Compliance Testing
OBD Compliance and Enforcement Group, a fairly new department at CARB, has been created to perform confirmatory and compliance testing on manufacturer vehicles. They test all aspects of OBD to ensure that the vehicle is compliant. WinterPark proposes a proactive approach to perform this testing in advance of CARB’s testing, in order to detect and correct OBD issues in advance to avoid potential delays in production. WinterPark will leverage our previous knowledge of what “CARB is looking for” to perform the same testing that will be performed by CARB staff.
Real World Vehicle Assessment (PEMS)
We have developed our own proprietary “Special Cycle” with a portable PEMS to identify potential gaps in the emission and OBD control systems. We can detect potential non-disclosed AECD features as well as other items required for compliance.
Government agencies are now performing real world emission testing to detect defeat devices which evade traditional emission testing. WinterPark has developed real world “Special Cycle” testing with a Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS) to identify potential gaps in OBD and emission control strategies similar to CARB’s approach. This type of testing can detect potential non-disclosed AECD features, assess performance with stressors applied (e.g., test with WPA level components installed), and identify noise factors with major OBD monitors or emission system. Data generated can be used to improve OBD and emission control system robustness.
